Dr. James Houston has dedicated his career to helping students unlock their academic potential and achieve excellence in high-stakes testing environments. Based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he brings over 12 years of university-level teaching experience and more than a decade of LSAT® instruction to every course he leads.
Holding degrees from Yale University, the University of Virginia, Emory University, and the University of Alabama, Dr. Houston’s academic background reflects both depth and diversity. His years of teaching have shaped an approach that blends rigorous logic with mentorship-driven learning, ensuring students not only master the LSAT® but also understand how to think like law students.
Over the past 12 years, Dr. Houston has guided aspiring law students to their dream schools, with nearly all gaining acceptance into their top-choice programs. Many of his students have gone on to attend top-tier law schools across the country. His coaching extends beyond test preparation; he works closely with each student to help identify the law school that best fits their LSAT® score, GPA, and long-term goals.
As a former Kaplan® LSAT® Instructor and, for the past 9 years, an independent LSAT® coach and class instructor, Dr. Houston is officially licensed by LSAC® and continues to refine his teaching methods to meet the evolving demands of modern test-takers. About the Course
LSAT® Prep Jump Start is a single-owner, single-tutor preparation program built for serious test-takers who want results. Led by Dr. Houston, a veteran LSAT® Prep Master Coach, this personalized approach has helped students gain admission to top law schools by mastering the exam rather than memorizing examples.
Through a focused three-day immersive Jump Start class and eight-week Tutor Mastery Pods, each student receives individualized attention, official LSAC® materials, and expert feedback tailored to their goals. With small-group pods of four or fewer, every student benefits from consistent guidance, accountability, and proven strategies that lead to real LSAT® success.

Jump-Start Course
The Jump-Start Course is a focused, three-day online intensive that introduces you to the logic, structure, and strategy behind every LSAT® question type.
Across nine hours of immersive training, you’ll learn to analyze arguments, identify reasoning patterns, and manage time efficiently — all using real LSAC®-released questions.
By the end of this course, you’ll complete your diagnostic LSAT®, know exactly where your strengths lie, and have a clear plan for mastering the exam in the weeks ahead.
Tutor Mastery Pods
The Tutor Mastery Pods are the second stage of the LSAT® Prep Jump Start system, a focused, 8-week program that turns what you learned in the Jump-Start Course into consistent, test-ready performance.
You’ll join a small pod of up to four students, guided by Dr. Houston, who tracks your progress and adapts lessons to your individual strengths. Each 75-minute session dives deep into reasoning patterns, pacing strategies, and problem areas, using officially released LSAC® test questions.
Across 20 hours of personalized instruction, you’ll sharpen your accuracy, improve your timing, and gain the confidence to perform under real test conditions.
